The Breastplate

"Wherefore take unto you the whole
armor of God, that ye may be able
to withstand in the evil day,
and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins
girt about with truth, and having
on the breastplate of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation
of the gospel of peace;
Above all, take the shield of faith,
wherewith ye shall be able to quench
all the fiery darts of the wicked.
And take the helmet of salvation,
and the sword of the Spirit,
which is the Word of God:
Praying always with all prayer and
supplication in the Spirit, and
watching thereunto with all
perseverance and supplication
for all saints."
Ephesians 6:13-18

"For this one man, Adam, brought death
to many through his sin. But this other
man, Jesus Christ, brought forgiveness
to many through God's bountiful gift.
And the result of God's gracious gift
is very different from the result of
that one man's sin. For Adam's sin led
to condemnation, but we have the free
gift of being accepted by God, even
though we are guilty of many sins.
The sin of this one man, Adam, caused
death to rule over us, but all who
receive God's wonderful, gracious gift
of righteousness will live in
triumph over sin and death through
this one man, Jesus Christ.
Yes, Adam's one sin brought condemnation
upon everyone, but Christ's one act of
righteousness makes all people right
in God's sight and gives them life.
Because one person disobeyed God, many
people became sinners. But because one
other person obeyed God, many people
will be made right in God's sight."
Romans 5:15b-19 NLT

Let's go over that again. ". . .Christ's
one act of righteousness makes all
people right in God's sight and gives
them life." In other words, when Jesus
took our sins to the cross, and we accepted
him as Lord and Savior, our sins were
blotted out. We became righteous in the
eyes of the Father. What amazing grace!

"There is therefore now no condemnation
to them which are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not after the flesh,
but after the Spirit.
But ye are not in the flesh, but
in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit
of God dwell in you. Now if any man
have not the Spirit of Christ,
he is none of His.
And if Christ be in you, the body is
dead because of sin; but the Spirit is
life because of righteousness.
For as many as are led by the Spirit of
God, they are the sons of God."
Romans 8:1, 9-11 and v. 14

"But ye are not in the flesh, but in
the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of
God dwell in you. Now if any man have not
the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.
And if Christ be in you, the body is
dead because of sin; but the Spirit is
life because of righteousness."
Romans 8:9-10

"What shall we say then? That the
Gentiles, which followed not after
righteousness, have attained to
righteousness, even the righteousness
which is of faith.
But Israel, which followed after the
law of righteousness, hath not attained
to the law of righteousness.
Wherefore? Because they sought it
not by faith, but as it were by the
works of the law. For they stumbled
at that stumblingstone;
As it is written, Behold, I lay in
Sion a stumblingstone and rock of
offence: and whosoever believeth on
Him shall not be ashamed."
Romans 9:30-33

"For they being ignorant of God's
righteousness, and going about to
establish their own righteousness,
have not submitted themselves unto
the righteousness of God.
For Christ is the end of the law for
righteousness to every one that believeth."
Romans 10:3-4

Now, let's read that in the NLT.
"For they don't understand God's way of
making people right with himself. Instead,
they are clinging to their own way of
getting right with God by trying to keep
the law. They won't go along with God's way.
For Christ has accomplished the whole
purpose of the law. All who believe
in Him are made right with God."
Romans 10:3-4 NLT

The more modern language in the NLT does
make this whole idea of righteousness,
and what we must do to attain it, a
far simpler concept to understand.

The purpose of this page has been to help
people understand that we are not perfect,
but we can be righteous in the eyes of
God, simply by accepting His only Son.
If you have not yet committed your life
to the Lord, so that you may have life
everlasting, won't you do that now?
This is a come-as-you-are invitation;
no matter who you are or what you have
done, He is waiting for you.

"I say unto you, that likewise joy shall
be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth,
more than over ninety and nine just persons,
which need no repentance."
Luke 15:7
