The Shoes of Peace

"A final word: Be strong with the Lord's
mighty power. Put on all of God's armor so
that you will be able to stand firm against all
strategies and tricks of the Devil. For we are
not fighting against people made of flesh and
blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities
of the unseen world, against those mighty
powers of darkness who rule this world,
and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms.
Use every piece of God's armor to resist the
enemy in the time of evil, so that after the
battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your
ground, putting on the sturdy belt of truth and
the body armor of God's righteousness. For
shoes, put on the peace that comes from
the Good News, so that you will be fully
prepared. In every battle you will need faith
as your shield to stop the fiery arrows aimed at
you by Satan. Put on salvation as your helmet,
and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the
Word of God. Pray at all times and on every
occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers
for all Christians everywhere."
Ephesians 6:10-18

Why would Paul say to "put on the peace that
comes from the Good News, so that you will
be fully prepared"? Because this peace is the
calmness and serenity that allows rational
thought to occur. One is not capable of sane
or rational, thought if the mind is in turmoil.
When we engage the enemy -- the powers of
darkness (evil) -- we must be completely alert
in order to fend off the fiery darts of the Devil.
Some of the ways the Bible speaks of peace :

Be Full of Peace

"Turn away from evil and do good.
Work hard at living in peace with others."
Psalm 34:14

"Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses
its flavor, how do you make it salty again?
You must have the qualities of salt among
yourselves and live in peace with each other."
Mark 9:50

Jesus is Known as the Prince of Peace

"For a child is born to us, a son is given to us.
And the government will rest on his shoulders.
These will be his royal titles: Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
His ever expanding, peaceful government will
never end. He will rule forever with fairness and
justice from the throne of his ancestor David.
The passionate commitment of the Lord Almighty
will guarantee this."
Isaiah 9:6-7

Wicked People will not Know Peace

"But there is no peace for the wicked, says the Lord."
Isaiah 48:22

We Can Have Peace with God

"But he was wounded and crushed for our sins.
He was beaten that we might have peace.
He was whipped, and we were healed!"
Isaiah 53:5

"I have told you all this so that you may
have peace in me. Here on earth you will have
many trials and sorrows. But take heart,
because I have overcome the world."
John 16:33

Make Peace with Others Quickly

"So if you are standing before the altar in the
Temple, offering a sacrifice to God, and you
suddenly remember that someone has something
against you, leave your sacrifice there beside the
altar. Go and be reconciled to that person.
Then come and offer your sacrifice to God."
Matthew 5:23-24

Jesus Gives Us Peace

"Therefore, since we have been made right in God's
sight by faith, we have peace with God because
of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us."
Romans 5:1

The Peace Jesus Gives is Different

"I am leaving you with a gift---peace of mind and
heart. And the peace I give isn't like the peace the
world gives. So don't be troubled or afraid."
John 14:27

Peace is Evidence of the Holy Spirit in Us

"But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives,
he will produce this kind of fruit in us:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Here there is no conflict with the law."
Galatians 5:22-23

We Can Have Peace Through Prayer

"Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say
it again---rejoice! Let everyone see that you
are considerate in all you do. Remember,
the Lord is coming soon.
Don't worry about anything, instead pray
about everything. Tell God what you need,
and thank him for all he has done.
If you do this, you will experience God's
peace, which is far more wonderful than
the human mind can understand. His
peace will guard your hearts and minds
as you live in Christ Jesus.
And now, dear friends, let me say one
more thing as I close this letter. Fix your
thoughts on what is true and honorable
and right. Think about things that are
pure and lovely and admirable. Think
about things that are excellent and worthy
of praise. Keep putting into practice
all you learned from me and heard from
me and saw me doing, and the God of
peace, will be with you."
Philippians 4:4-9

"You will keep in perfect peace all
who trust in you, whose thoughts
are fixed on you!"
Isaiah 26:3
